Gulf Arabic Grammar - Comparing Things
haadha il-akil a7la min dhaak – This meal is sweeter than that one.
7ilu , which means 'sweet' is also used to mean ‘good’, ‘great’.
ri7t ashuuf shayarat il-7ayaa fi-l-ba7rayn – I went (to) see the Tree of Life in Bahrain. 7ilu! – Great!
Note: The so-called Tree of Life is a fully-grown tree in the midst of the desert sands of Bahrain. People do not know how it sustains itself.
Another synonym is ‘3ajeeb’ (wonderful). It is stronger than ‘7ilu’.
